Japanese studies
Dedicated to the development of a Japanese center of excellence in Europe, the CEEJA is very active in the field of research and training. Its partnerships with numerous European and Japanese universities and its innovative research programs place it at the heart of a Europe-Japan network.
Formation
- On the Japanese side, the Japanese universities Hôsei and Gakushûin have been organizing European awareness courses for their students every year for many years. Students are welcomed in Alsace and are accompanied in their discovery of Europe. In 2020, these training courses were kept virtual. In 2022, two new universities wish to integrate into this training dynamic: Rikkyô University of Tôkyô and Iwate Prefectural University.
- On the French side, the CEEJA has allowed the circulation of educational trunks on Japan in nursery and elementary schools in Alsace and has extended this system to colleges.
- The CEEJA also offers a cultural and intercultural training component aimed at both French and Japanese employees, taking the form of seminars for individuals or groups.
- In 2021, the Grand Est Region introduced the Japanese language in vocational training offered to job seekers managed by the GRETA network.
Research
In 2019, CEEJA adopted an innovative research program in France on the history of Japanese techniques, funded by the Toshiba International Foundation (TIFO). The first collective work in English "Technical Knowledge in Early Modern Japan" directed by Erich Pauer & Russelle Meade, and financed by TIFO, was published in November 2020 by the publisher Renaissance Book, Folkestone, England. A second book "Accessing Technical Education in Modern Japan" is being published for the month of September 2021.
